PD Day Tomorrow – January 27th

This is a reminder that tomorrow, Friday January 27th is a PD Day. The teachers will be involved with Professional Development and therefore students do not attend school. We wish you all a wonderful weekend.

FAMILY LITERACY DAY – January 27, 2012

Tomorrow is Family Literacy Day in Canada. This event focuses on the critical role of parents and families in helping their children succeed in school. Literacy is the key that opens the door to success for all of our students. Parents are a child’s earliest and most important teachers, and it’s never too early to start reading to your child.

Family literacy can mean reading a bedtime story together, but that’s only the beginning. Playing word games, singing songs, drawing pictures, and writing letters, notes and shopping lists, are all ways families can incorporate literacy into their daily lives.

You can find more ideas and information on the ABC Life Literacy Canada website. The Ministry of Education also offers tips in a number of languages, as well as podcasts to help busy parents. In addition, The Canadian Language and Literacy Research Network provides interesting links to information and resources.

Parent Census Survey Goes Home Next Week

The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) invites all parents, guardians and caregivers of children in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6, to complete a Parent Census survey which will be sent home next week. The first Parent Census, conducted in 2008, provided the school, system and community with valuable information for effective programming for the benefit of all our students. This Census is conducted every 5 years. For more information, please visit our website at www.tdsb.on.ca/census.

The survey is voluntary and confidential. The information you provide will support important program planning for our students. It will also give us your opinion about your child’s school. This helps us to improve our schools for all students. We encourage all parents to complete the survey.

All completed forms will be sent directly to the Research Department, and will be used for research purposes only.

After completing your survey, please seal it in the envelope provided and return the sealed envelope to your child’s school by February 29, 2012.

Toy Drive

The Student Council has arranged a Toy Drive for the school. If you have toys that you don’t use anymore, we can make good use of them. Please bring any gently used toys , games, puzzles and books to Room 19. Any items donated will be taken to a women’s shelter. Thanks so much for all your help.

We will continue collecting until the end of January.

Soccer Coaches Wanted!

It’s that time of year again when we would ask parents who have a keen interest in physical activity and specifically SOCCER to step forward to offer their time and skill in coaching our gr. 5 and 6 girls and boys soccer teams. We would need your commitment from the beginning of May to early (or mid) June.

Please respond to M. Lalonde at jean-aime.lalonde@tdsb.on.ca. Thanks for your support.
