Happy New Year!
We hope you had a wonderful and restful break over the past few weeks and wish you all the best for 2012. It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm of the students as they returned to school on Monday, ready once again to focus on their work in the classroom.
We are very happy to welcome Mme Carol Anderson-Bagot in the Grade 6 class, replacing Mme Gagne who is away on maternity leave.
Character Trait for January – Teamwork
January’s focus in our Character Education program is “Teamwork”. This morning we had an assembly which featured Mme Kozlov and Mme MacDonald’s classes cheering us on to be involved in Teamwork. Their presentation also featured pictures of these students working together to accomplish a common goal.
Also presented at the assembly was a powerpoint presentation on Teamwork. The powerpoint is provided here so that you can review it at home with your child if you wish.
Spirit Day Next Friday, January 20th
The Student Council is encouraging us all to wear Beach Wear next Friday, January 20th. The Grade 6 students modeled some examples of appropriate costumes during our Character Education assembly. Have a look at the latest styles, here.
Ambassadors Recognized with Sashes
Our Student Ambassadors do many important jobs around the school such as helping in the Primary Lunchroom, making announcements over the P.A. and helping in the office at lunch. New sashes have recently been purchased for our Ambassadors to wear in recognition of their valuable work at the school. Below, two of our ambassadors model the apparel.
A Note from School Council
Happy New Year and Welcome Back.
As usual January is off to a very busy start. The Noon Enrichment activities and the After 4 programs will begin next week. The lunch time Knitting Club will begin the week of January 23rd. Planning is well underway for two of the big events of our school year – Carnaval and Grano. Carnaval will take place Friday February 10th and Grano, one of our major fundraising endeavors, is set for Sunday February 26th. Please watch your emails and your child’s envelopes for more information on both these upcoming events and the ways in which you can offer your support.
Our first School Council meeting for the new year has been moved to Wednesday January 25th from its original date of January 18th. At that meeting Officer Marcie Beaven-Brindle will be giving a half hour presentation on Internet Safety. Following her presentation we will complete our regular business.
We are still looking for a Chair or Co-Chairs for our Lunch Committee. Please contact me if you would like to help out.
Looking forward to an exciting 2012.

Grano Fundraiser Coming on Feb. 26, 2012
Hello and Happy New Year to all Parents of John Fisher,
We are pleased to send you our first message regarding the Grano’s Dinner and Live Auction coming up on Sunday, February 26th at 4:30 at Grano Ristaurante on Yonge Street – mark your calendars!
We are very excited to be working on this fabulous event and would like to share some important information with you
The Fundraising Committee raises money to enrich the education of all our children. From French resources to gym equipment, our music program to our playground, evidence of our financial contribution is physically apparent and its benefits also extend into the intellectual and emotional growth of our children.
The Grano Dinner and Live Auction is one of our big events for the year. We need YOUR help in making the 20th annual Grano Dinner a success!
Here’s how you can help:
Buy a ticket and attend the Grano Dinner.
This is an opportunity to get together with John Fisher parents and Staff to socialize. New to John Fisher? This is a great opportunity to meet other parents! Tickets will be available for purchase as of January 27th. Order forms will be sent home via Thursday envelope. Please consider coming. Buying a ticket to the dinner directly contributes to fundraising.
Donate a Gift or Service.
If you, or your company, have sports tickets, theatre tickets, resort or hotel contacts, restaurant or spa contacts, movie passes, electronics, decorative home items, accent furniture, jewellery, sporting goods, computer or cleaning services, ice/pool rental, music or other lessons, birthday party venues, gift items etc… Please consider donating them to our Live Auction! We have charitable status and can offer a tax receipt for the value of the donated items. It is these items that truly make our auction great.
In the past we have auctioned off gift baskets that we arranged from individual gift donations. Perhaps you even have some unused gift cards hanging around the house. Dust them off, and consider donating them! Gift cards for any of the major chain stores are always helpful when we are putting together the baskets for auction.
Volunteer to help out.
We need volunteers to put together this amazing event. Help prepare auction baskets, set up on the day of the event, canvas and collect donated items from local stores, and more. We have tasks both big and small and would love to have you as part of the Grano organizing team
Thank you for your support.
We look forward to seeing you at Grano!
